What to Wear with a Long Denim Skirt: 5 Long Skirt Fall Outfits
We are officially well into fall, which means it’s time to bust out the denim! Long denim skirts have been trending for a little while now. I say we ride that trend as long as humanly possible! A denim skirt is a great summer staple, but since it’s October, here are 5 denim long skirt fall outfits.

Is it starting to feel like fall where you live?! I didn’t know that it was even possible, but summer seemed to overstay her welcome this year in Wisconsin. We are well into October and the fall temps are finally just now starting to creep in. We still have a few warm days in the forecast, so I’m not packing away my summer clothes just yet. It is, however, definitely time to start transitioning wardrobe pieces into fall. One such piece is my long denim skirt. I picked it up earlier in the summer and it has been one of my favorite pieces this year. So I am definitely taking it into fall with me!
In this post I am sharing 5 long skirt fall outfits.

Warm Fall Outfits with a Jean Skirt
Summer has really hung around as long as she possibly could this year. We are well into October and still the temps are getting up into the 70’s and 80’s on a fairly consistent basis, even here in Wisconsin. Usually the sweater weather has started to roll in by this point. I can’t imagine what the weather is like in warmer parts of the country!
Since I know I’m not alone in being ready for fall fashion, but needing to dress for summer temps, I wanted to start with these two denim skirt outfits.
Let’s start with this look because one of the easiest ways to channel fall while still dressing for summer is by incorporating traditional fall colors. This crochet tank comes in several color options, but I especially love the camel color option for this time of year. Plus the camel color pairs beautifully with a blue denim skirt. I finished off the look with pops of white in my western boots and handbag. You could totally get away with a neutral pair of booties with this look too. Feel free to go that route, especially if that is what you happen to have in your closet already!
Next up is this look that I just had to share again. I wore this outfit on a trip to Nashville that I went on over the summer. I had actually shared an entire blog post about all my Nashville outfit ideas, and of course this long jean skirt outfit was included in that post. You can check it out here if you’d like some Nashville or country concert outfit inspo!
What you’ll love about this look is that you’ll easily be able to layer a jacket over it. If the temps get cool in the evenings and mornings, but hot during the day where you are, this will be a great option for you. The nice part is that the denim skirt and ivory textured tank are such a neutral pairing. That means that your options for jackets to top it off are pretty wide open. Use whatever you have already in your closet to save money and resources!
Fall Long Skirt Outfits
Now onto the main event! I’ve been waiting patiently for real fall weather and now that it is finally starting to set in, these are the types of outfits that I will be wearing. They offer plenty of coverage and warmth, but are still cute and trendy.
This first “real fall” denim skirt outfit is going to have to be more of an inspiration outfit. The fitted sweater is a couple of years old and is no longer available to purchase. I tried finding a similar option to link here, but it was surprisingly more difficult than I thought it’d be to find a similar sweater with the same fit and colors as the one I’m wearing here. Instead, I have linked several options that have a similar fit. They will all pair just as nicely (or possibly even better) with the long skirt and black boots.
How to wear long skirts with boots
As you can see, pairing a jean skirt with boots is one of the easiest ways to transition a long skirt into fall weather. This next outfit is basically the same outfit formula as the last one. The biggest differences between the two looks are the fit of the sweater and the addition of a hat. As long as you have a well fitting denim skirt, you can totally get away with pairing it with a roomier sweater.
This sweater is an Amazon find and I find myself grabbing for it all of the time! I find the batwing style to be super flattering on just about any body type. The way that the bodice tapers in at the bottom makes it incredibly easy to fold and tuck the sweater into a belt or high waisted pants. Tucking it makes the sweater appear slightly oversized and cropped. The nice thing about this exact style is that it has a bit more weight and structure than other options that I have found on Amazon. I think that makes the sweater feel a little higher end. I am wearing a size medium in the apricot color option. The sweater does come in over 20 other color options including a few striped styles.
We also need to take a moment to talk about the boots that I’m wearing with this outfit. They are the perfect knee high style for fall! You can easily dress them up or dress them down, so they are super versatile! They have a bit of a slouch to them, but they stay up and don’t fall down around your ankles. They come in four different color options. I’m wearing the tortilla suede color and would say that they fit true to size.
Using the same boot and skirt combo, I changed out the sweater for a more fitted option and layered a moto jacket over top. I think this is probably my favorite denim skirt outfit that I’m sharing here, if I’m being honest! The moto jacket adds just a hint of edginess. And the layers are the most realistic option when considering the weather in the fall time where I live.
Can You Wear a Denim Skirt in the Fall?
After perusing this post, I hope that you’re convinced that you absolutely can wear a long denim skirt in the fall! A blue denim skirt is a great wardrobe addition to be able to create long skirt fall outfits. Whether you live in a warmer climate where the temps still feel like summer or a cooler climate that gets real fall weather, a denim skirt is a great staple. The key is to find a jean skirt that fits well and makes you feel great!
Because denim is not a universally well fitting fabric, I’ve linked a few long denim skirt options here. If you are somebody who has issues with gapping when trying out new jeans, I definitely recommend looking for something with a bit of stretch to conform to your curves.
Pro Tip: I have personally tried out several denim skirt options. I found that the type of jean skirt that fits best is similar in rigidity as the types of jeans that fit me best. The other skirts were returned. Not because they were poor quality or defective. They just didn’t fit quite right and therefore I didn’t love them or feel great wearing them. So my advice is to stick to what you know works for you in other types of denim and carry that over into your denim skirts.
